C'est par deux cent soixante quatorze voix contre cent vingt neuf que le Gouvernement de Monsieur PFLIMLIN a été investi. Ce vote est intervenu à la fin d'une journée au cours de laquelle s'étaient déroulées d'importantes manifestations. A PARIS, d'abord, où, après avoir rendu hommage aux trois soldats français fusillés par le FLN (Front de Libération Nationale), quelques milliers d'anciens combattants se heurtèrent aux barrages du service d'ordre. A ALGER, surtout, où cinquante mille personnes environ parmi lesquelles de nombreux musulmans, s'étaient dans un calme relatif, rassemblées devant le Monument aux Morts, plusieurs heures avant le vote de l'Assemblée. Après la cérémonie à la mémoire des soldats exécutés par le FLN, un millier d'étudiants se lancèrent à l'assaut du Ministère de l'ALGERIE. Malgré les grenades lacrymogènes, les jeunes gens forcèrent les barrages des Compagnies Républicaines de Sécurité (CRS) gardant les édiffices et ceux-ci durent reculer sous les jets de pierres. Brisant les grilles, la foule envahit les bureaux et les saccage. Arrivé quelques instants plus tard le Général MASSU annonçait la constitution d'un Comité de Salut Public. Cette manifestation qui a soulevé en FRANCE et à l'Etranger des réactions diverses, symbolise la situation exceptionnellement grave de la FRANCE.
