Crumbling of the ARTAIX Aqueduct. Small poster: FRANCE. CHAMBILLY. The aqueduct bridge of ARTAIX carrying the channel of the Centre, breaks. Between ARTAIX and CHAMBILLY, the channel crosses a broad valley from approximately 300 metres, to twenty metres high. It is to some extent a genuine aqueduct. Shortly after midnight, in the night of 2 to 3 February, collapse occurred on about thirty metres. Released water invaded the region located between BRIENNON and CHAMBILLY and the channel was completely emptied. About the morning, new collapse occurred, destroying the bed of the channel and the tow path over a length of one hundred metres. The traffic in the ROANNE port is completely stopped. It is all the more serious as number of workers who were occupied are condemned to unemployment. One allots to the thaw which has occurred too abruptly, the causes of this disaster.
